Conkwe here. I'll be taking over and updating the promo list since the OP isn't active anymore. Update: link to new promo list here. With the addition of the variant cards, I was afraid of reaching character limits for posts, hence a new thread for me to separate the posts.
Old Post:
Hi guys,
I thought that this might be helpful to have since no one else seems to be keeping track of them in one place. Perfect for collectors like me.

The Evolution of FFTCG Promotional Cards
The promo cards started off as unique cards (PR-001-003) that was available for months. Due to distribution issues and time variance in releases, SE decided to make all promo cards available to players by ending the unique promos and instead made parallel and alternate art promos of current cards. These promos were released monthly as shop/event promos.
Another method distribution for promos were the alternate art promos in the Starter Sets IX and Type-0. These had alternate art work from their booster box counterpart.
There is not much distinction between the terms "parallel" and "alternate art" cards. The "parallel term" was originally used for cards that had a different artwork and was released later as shop/event promos, whereas the "alternate art" was strictly used for the cards with different artwork from the starter sets in IX and Type-0 versus their booster box art version. However, nowadays, the term is used interchangeably, with most just using alternate art.
Prerelease promos were introduced with the release of the Pre-release kits for Opus IV and onwards. The prerelease promos include gold foil lettering for the name, power, and Opus set prerelease label.
Another distribution method was added with the purchase of merchandise. The Dissidia promo cards PR-020-022 can only be obtained from purchasing certain versions of the Dissidia NT Final Fantasy video game. PR-028 also can only be obtained by purchasing the FFTCG 2017 annual book.
The promo art style was changed to Full Art style, which was announced at 2018 Worlds Championship with the reveal of Yuna Full Art promo for February 2019. The distribution numbers for foil cards were also limited, probably to increase collectability for the promo cards since the earlier promo cards oversaturated the market and carried little value.
Another method of distributing promo cards was added in the form of booster box toppers, in which you receive a promo card with a purchase of a whole booster box. The first booster box promo card was Opus VII Noctis Full Art.
Some promos were released as region-exclusive promos that can only be obtained in certain countries. These promos include PR-047/5-068L Y'shtola and PR-048/6-127L Hraesvelgr in China, and PR-049/2-093H Raubahn in Japan. After much critical feedback from the community, promos would no longer be region-exclusive to give everyone in any country an opportunity to obtain the promos.
An uncommon small change in the art style was introduced by the change of orientation of the card. PR-028 Warrior of Light is the first card in the entire playable Opus series to have a landscape orientation instead of the normal portrait orientation.
The chosen promos took another change with the timing of their releases. Promo cards now can release ahead of their Opus set release time. This means that they'll be released temporarily as a unique card, but will eventually be released as a standard version in an Opus set later. Full Art PR-051 Rydia will be the first promo card to do this as it releases in July 2019.
Special event promos are given throughout the game to commemorate certain events. These promos include a unique logo or label on the card. Notable promos includle PR-008/1-098R Gabranth, PR-050/1-080H Bartz, PR-039/7-077L Noctis, and PR-056/6-044L Zidane.
From the beginning, we've always had non-playable promos that were mainly distributed purely for promotion of the game. These cards use the landscape orientation.
