This event will be spread out across 3 days.
Days 1 and 2 will be Swiss Rounds, with the Top 8 players of each day moving on to Day 3 for the Top 16.

Top 32 will battle it out though Best of 3 single elimination rounds on Day 3.

So the SoCal Crystal Cup was super fun and the results were very unexpected. But I'm happy. 😊

There were 6 Swiss rounds for Day 1 with 59 participants. I was originally slated for Day 2, but I was looking for advice from someone and came to the conclusion that Day 1 would be best to top for Day 3. That was really my only goal for this tournament, to get into Day 3 and I'd be happy. With the level of SoCal competition along with visitors from all over the country coming in to compete, that's the most I could ask for.

Day 2 had 73 participants with 7 Swiss rounds. Bittersweet feelings for my friend that made it to Top 16, but had to drop due to a family emergency. The drop actually bumped up my other friend into Top 16.

Umm, so I'm writing this pretty late from the time of the Crystal Cup, so my memory is fuzzy with my Swiss rounds. I went 4-2, with two of my losses being Mono Ice. I faced those same opponents on Day 3 and unexpectedly beat them, so I was super stoked that I had gotten that far and qualified for Nationals.

I know there's probably some big questions with what happened on my final match on the stream. I answered it on Cards of Ivalice's interview article that was recently posted.

Gunslinger
The Gunslinger player was Yamaguchi-san from Hobby Japan. It was a long wait list. I never got the chance to play him. 😞 But I heard that he was hard to beat.

The Wolves Den
So there was a lot of debate with what was happening at Wolves Den with the achievements list. It's nothing new, but it's come up enough to the point that players are becoming dissatisfied with the event. Basically, people ask their opponent to let them get the record for the achievement by not playing the game seriously. Some examples would be the most Scions in play achievement, most Dragoons in play achievement, etc. There would be people that legitimately achieved an achievement and then there would be those "cheating" the system. The Wolves Den was hot and busy at the beginning, but throughout the day when people couldn't beat the cheating records through a legitimate match, many people gave up. This is a concern that Square Enix needs to address to keep the integrity of the Wolves' Den event.

KBBQ Dinner and Gathering
On Saturday night, we had a big FFTCG gathering for our traditional KBBQ dinner after a big event. I think we took up 3 big tables, maybe 4.

Some of us then went for some Italian Ice for dessert. We all then met up at a hotel lobby to mingle and drink. Some Chocobo Crystal Hunt may have been played. My friends and I left early to play test for Day 3.

Swag Bag
All participants received the generic FFTCG white tote bag. In it was the new foil Exdeath promo card and the Crystal Cup SoCal exclusive Ramza storage box.

Prizes
Prizing was reserved for Top 4. I got 3rd place since my opponent wanted to leave early. He was fine to just qualify. For 3rd place, there was a Semi-Finalist trophy that I forgot to take a picture of. I left the trophy at the Card Game Coliseum shop. The owner Henry keeps a trophy case for all the locals that won a trophy at big events. I probably should've taken it home for a little while like my friend said. I didn't think about it and didn't want to bring it home since I was lazy. 😕 It would've been nice to show to my family and on my stream. I don't even have any photos of it other than the event photos. I do still have the Chocobo plush. It's so cute! I'm so happy I got one. 😊 And I finally got my hands on a FFTCG Accessory set. I've been wanting these since they were first released back in the FFTCG Chapter series days. In the binder, many foil promos were included.
