Twitter post on FFTCG at AX 2018Event Report FFTCG at AX 2018 was a blast. I didn't do anything else at AX other than the FFTCG stuff and the Kingdom Hearts III demo. I usually try to see/do other stuff, but I got pretty lazy this year. 😕 For the rest of my time, I was managing my Artist Alley table. AX 2018 was held during Opus VI Prerelease weekend, so SE decided to have two Prerelease tournaments every day (except for the last day, which only held one due to the con closing early). I did three Prerelease tournaments. My boxes were not good at all. I lost all my first matches. 😞 Prizes were given out for each Prerelease tournament to the Top 2 winners. As far as the ones I've seen seen and know, they were the Black Prerelease playmats and a plush. On Day 2 and on, they also gave out official dice that's not yet released as a Prerelease participation prize. I only managed to get two sets since I did the first Prerelease and they didn't have them on the first day. But I did manage to post some unique spoilers because I did the first Prerelease. 😏 The Gunslinger matches were not easy. You had to beat the staff to win two promo cards. If you lost, then you get one promo card as a consolation prize. At least that's how I think it went. It's really hard to get a win in the Gunslinger match when your opponent's decks are updated with Opus VI and yours isn't. 😞 It didn't help either that you're going up against really good players like Richard Brady and SoCal's two-time Warrior of Light Gregory Cole. I was lucky enough to get a few wins in that I got several promo cards. And they had old foil promos like the first Lightning and Vincent! I was super stoked. They're hard to find now, so I was trying to get a playset. I only managed to get two foil Lightnings. The promo cards you got depended on who you played. My other promo cards were just the newer ones..😕 I was glad to see a lot of familiar faces and locals attend the Prereleases and other events, as well as meet new people. I met a few people that were from NorCal. It was funny when we introduced ourselves to each other. They said they knew me from Crystal Cup and that I beat their friend.... Awkward. Lol. But they were cool to talk to. They managed to win a Prerelease event twice. Congrats to them. 😊 And my friend that helped staff and demo games lost his voice for the day! That was just unfortunate. Luckily, it was just one day and he managed to work for the rest of the days. It was great meeting the rest of the staff. A lot of them were super nice. A lot of them were familiar faces to me since I usually see them at SE events. I did some Gunslinger matches with my other friend that staffed on the front table instead of the regular tables inside the booth. They would hype up my Nationals qualification a lot to help advertise to passerbyers. 😄 It was surreal, but I'm super thankful to have the support from the community. 😊 Now, on to San Diego Comic Con!
