After seeing a few stores start posting Regional qualifier events in the UK, Square have posted full details of the events across Europe for the 2017 Opus Championship. It looks like the structure starts with local regional events, which qualify you for a national event for your country, which qualifies you for the European final in London, which qualifies you for Worlds in Japan! There also appears as though there may both other ways to qualify which are not yet announced, so i'm wondering if there will be something like a Grand Prix equivalent at some point.
I'm lucky that my local store gets to host one of the regionals in the UK, so i'll definitely be going that, but may even travel to others for a chance of making nationals.
I'm guessing that US will get something similar announced at some point, but with the stock issues, they are probably best leaving it a little while anyway as i'm sure people would be annoyed if they came out with lots of events very soon that people won't have the cards to be able to play in.
What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that 90% of all game stores in US just dont know what they are doing when it comes too stock Im no expert by any means on finding product but I do know that trollandtoad had 120+ booster boxes of opus 2 where my local store couldn't even get one wether they didnt even try or are just unlucky I dont know lol as for championships Id love to see them in US but only the really populated areas would really see any benefits because in areas like mine nobody has product unless you bought stuff online like I did im the only person in like 100 mile radius that has any opus 1

That's a lot of tournaments! It's great that it's local for you zafri! The USA Qualifier is local for me too. I think it's quite a bit too soon that you guys have your tournaments. By the time the USA has the tournament, we'll have more cards with Opus III out, so more options. It's a little inconsistent having the tournament dates spaced so far apart.

I must admit I was surprised when I saw when they were, feels really soon. I think the differences in timing and setup are the sort of thing that will get ironed out in time though, as Organised Play rolls out properly across the world, so in future years it will be a lot more synchronised.
Good that your qualifier is local too, perhaps we can both get to Japan!!!

oh wow, looking at the schedule that seems faster than soon,. Good luck to you though zafri.
as far as organized play, the only Organized play scene I was apart of was Pokemon, so I have a quick question. Is there going to be a site we need to register on in order to get an official player ID/Number? Or have those details not been released yet?

We don't have any details about registering yet but I have to imagine that will happen at some point. One thing I particularly like about that with Magic is that you can log on and see your full match history. Hopefully this will have something similar in due course.

That would be really neat. I really hope they go the same route as pokemon and allow you to accumulate points for events you attend to earn special promo cards or some sort of goodies. I wouldn't mind getting pins or a lanyard for that

That seems like a nice idea. Magic doesn't have physical rewards like that but your points can earn you byes at large events, which is a nice incentive to play often and perform well. Does Pokemon have anything like that?

When I last played Pokemon they did not have anything like that. The points were mostly for swag and cards. One cool thing they did that I would like to see Square Enix do are special stamped holo cards. If you attended Leagues (weekly casuals pretty much) and Tournaments you would eventually get enough points to put you into a tier. The first tier unlocked holo cards that were the exact cards from sets, but they had the special "Pokemon Play!" stamp on them which I thought was cool.

I know right? I wonder how they've been doing so far with judging and disputes in the tournaments.
