Kagiyama has announced that they are changing the way that they are doing Promo cards going forward. Up to now there have been 3 Promo cards (Sephiroth PR-001, Vincent PR-002 & Lightning PR-003) which have all been unique cards that you can't get in any way other than from stores that are running events. He pointed out that this is somewhat problematic, as it means that people who can't get to events may never be able to get hold of these cards. He also mentioned that coming up with interesting designs for these cards is difficult without simply copying something they already have, and if they make them too powerful it is unfair for the people that aren't able to get hold of them.
So, because of those reasons, they are changing the Promo cards stores will receive from June to be Parallel versions of cards already found in boosters. Just like some of the cards that will be in the Opus 3 starter decks, these are alternate art versions of existing cards and can simply be used in their place.
The first two of these are Lann for June and Laguna for July.
What do you think of this change to the Promo system?
And what existing cards would you like to see a Parallel version of?

It's understandable that they want to go this route. Exclusive promo cards makes it much harder for people that pick up the game late to obtain them. It'll diminish promo card's value, but I think it's necessary from a gamer's perspective. At least there'll be parallel cards, so it'll still be a collectible card, just not so much as before.
I wonder if they'll do parallel cards in the future for the three promo cards already released. A lot of people still can't get them in the US. We still don't have Vincent, which is a highly sought-after card.

Our store got the Sephiroth ones first (promo 1) then just recently got the Lightning ones (promo 3). No sign of anything different and it's almost June when the parallel ones should start coming out. Very odd.

You think they will be kind enough to make more of the current promos? My LGS got the sephiroth and lightning promos (lighting I was able to snag) but I would like to get one of each if possible.
New system seems interesting and one that I agree with for the state that the game is in right now. At least in the USA.

I hope so, but maybe later since they're still being given out right now. I just don't know if they'd be the same card or a parallel card.

Got news that our local store now has the Vincent promos and will be starting to give them out at the Opus 3 Starter Deck prerelease this weekend, so that's something.

Ooo nice! No news yet in the U.S. for Vincent promos. We're currently hyped with the Opus I Wave 3 release though.
