Hi everyone, Richelle here with my first of two Opus XIV: Crystal Abyss Card of the Week reveals! The first card I picked was largely due to personal reasons, since I, like many other FINAL FANTASY fans, picked up WAR OF THE VISIONS FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS during this past year. It’s a fun Tactics-style mobile game with an engaging story, awesome characters, and impressive art and animations.

Anyone else who has been playing WOTV since launch knows that among the powerful new characters introduced to the FINAL FANTASY universe in this game, its version of Gilgamesh is one of the most powerful and highly sought after. He also takes quite a bit of an investment in resources to reach his full potential, but a fully powered Gilgamesh is near unrivaled in power.

Let’s take a look at his FFTCG card!

Gilgamesh (FFBE) [14-023L] is a 3 CP Ice Forward with 7000 power, category FFBE, and the Job “Winged One.” He has a field ability which reads “If you have 3 or more different Elements among cards in your Break Zone, Gilgamesh (FFBE) gains +1000 power, Haste and First Strike, and if you have 7 or more, Gilgamesh (FFBE) also gains Brave and “Gilgamesh (FFBE)” can attack 3 times in the same turn.” In addition, he has an auto ability which reads “When Gilgamesh (FFBE) attacks, choose 1 Character. If you have 5 or more different Elements among cards in your Break Zone, dull it and Freeze it.”

So as you can see, just like in WotV, Gilgamesh requires a bit of an investment and preparation. You’ll need to include every main element (and either Light or Dark) to reach Gilgamesh’s full power. Luckily, thanks to Multi-Element cards, this isn’t incredibly difficult to accomplish. We’ll need to select our Multi-Element cards a LITTLE carefully since a few of them are reliant on the elements they cover. While we need them in the Break Zone to power Gilgamesh’s ability, it’s safe to say they should also be playable in their own right. Locke [12-116L] is always a great option, and with Ice being his main Element, it helps to have a few cards stay within the same element as Gilgamesh (FFBE). On that note, I also think White Tiger l’Cie Nimbus [13-112L] makes a great option, giving you your Earth Element. Playing around Earth Element with your Backups also allows for more easily playing a 6 (well 7) element deck with cards like Shantotto [1-107L] and Kimahri [1-103C].

Now, whether all of your Multi-Element cards are Ice/X or you fill it quickly with 3 Multi-Element cards with entirely different elements, we also need a Dark or Light card in there as well. I’d suggest running Chaos [1-184H] or Cosmos [1-183H] to help playing all of the different elements you’re including. Additionally, you’ll need ways to get a Light or Dark card into your Break Zone. Citra [10-127H] is a great option, because while she’s already a great card, she allows you to discard Light cards for her action ability. If you’re not worried about how to get the cards into the Break Zone, it may even be worth running Innocence [13-137S], since having a copy of the card in your Break Zone powers up other copies of Innocence [13-137S]. Of course, if you’re feeling Dark you can just run Neo Exdeath [12-110L] and call it a day.

Once you get Gilgamesh (FFBE) to his full potential, your opponent will need removal fairly quickly, since he can clear the path of opposing Forwards and attack three times as soon as he hits the field. If you notice your opponent filling up their Break Zone with different elements, you’ll likely want to hold onto some removal or a card to empty their Break Zone like Mist Dragon [9-068H] to prepare for Gilgamesh (FFBE) to hit the field.
