Does anyone else think that the Opus III packaging artwork with Sephiroth is unsuitable for the cards in this set? This set seems to be a mix of FF games, but particularly focuses on Type-0 and FFIX based on the starter sets. I know that there's a few FFVII cards in Opus III from the spoilers we received, but I think it was just a wasted opportunity to feature a character from the other games on the packaging. There'll be plenty of FFVII cards later if the old Chapter series is something to go on. I just felt that they could've saved Sephiroth for the art packaging for another Opus set that is more FFVII oriented.

I definitely agree. If I had to choose, I probably would have went with Zidane for this set.

I agree it's a shame but I can see why they did it. The game is still starting out and I think they are going to put the most iconic characters on the packs to start with to bring as many people in as possible. I'd bet that way more people would look at Sephiroth and know who he was compared with Zidane, or indeed anyone from IX or Type-0. I'm confident that they will branch out more in the future but right now it's all about getting as many people to buy their first packs and try out the game. I might be wrong but I think that's probably the reason.
I do also wonder whether they will change at any point to be like MTG where there are multiple pack art for each set. With MTG there are between 3-5 different pack arts each set which allows for more variety in what they get to use. This seems like a good way to go, but it's presumably more costly to manufacture in this way.

That's what I thought too. Just put iconic characters for the first few sets to get some sales. But with how popular the game was with the first two sets, I felt that they didn't really need to push on their iconic characters anymore to get sales. I think there's a lot of people that would've enjoyed a FFIX character. I would've liked Zidane or Vivi.
As for the different artwork within a set like MTG, I can't see that happening, at least not anytime soon. Maybe if the game becomes more established in the long run. It seems that they're only just recently keeping up with supply and demand worldwide, it would be too much of an extra task to provide multiple artwork for a set. They'd probably get behind again on with supply. I'm fine with the way as it is. TBH, I'm happy that we even have packaging artwork this time. The old Chapter series didn't have any artwork, only plain FFTCG title/logo.
